The Secrets to Handling Teenage Emotions

How to Handle Teenage Emotions

The teen years are filled with physical and emotional changes – and supporting teens through these tumultuous years can feel physically and emotionally challenging for adults!

We see our teens struggle with managing their emotions. They may be dealing withstress, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Here are some creative ways to help teens manage their emotions:

Practice mindfulness Mindfulness is a great way to help teens manage their emotions. Encourage them to practice mindful breathing or meditation. There are several apps available that can guide them through meditation, such as Headspace and Calm.

Get them involved in physical activities Physical activity is a great way to release tension and improve mood. Encourage your teen to get involved in a sport or any physical activity they enjoy. This can be anything from going for a walk or run, playing a game of basketball, or practicing yoga.

Teach them relaxation techniques Teach your teen relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, or visualization. These techniques can help them calm down when they’re feeling anxious or stressed.

Offer professional help If your teen is struggling with their emotions and mental health, consider seeking professional help. Talk to a therapist or a mental health professional who can provide additional support and guidance.

Encourage journaling Encourage your teen to write down their feelings in a journal. Writing down their emotions can help them process and understand what they’re feeling. It can also be a great outlet for stress and anxiety. You can provide a notebook and encourage them to write about their day, their feelings, or anything that’s on their mind.
